Derrels Big Newb Guide

So you've finally managed to download the game client, create an account, and are excited to play? I hope so. If not please leave.... Just kidding. Even if you haven't downloaded the client or made an account you can learn about the game you're going to play pretty soon.
You are now on Planet Calypso, a large planet home to many citizens and creatures. You can interact with everyone and everything here. There are untamed lands to find and see, shops and estates to own, and a real cash economy! Yes a real cash economy where money can be put in and taken out! So what are you waiting for? If you haven't already download the game, do so now!

Real Cash Economy
Entropia is a game like no other. It has a real cash economy! Real USD money (either USD or money, not both) can be exchanged for PED's (Project Entropia Dollars). In the game 10 ped = 1 dollar. The minimum withdrawal is $100 or 1000 ped. If you would like to know about mark-ups on items a good website is PE Auction[/URL]. It has all the percentage mark-ups and rates.

The Story So Far
Right now it is the Second Gold Age of Calypso (Has just ended). In the first, a robot space craft crashed into the planet surface and the world had to be evacuated. The land mass and continents were changed and a giant crater and other deformations were left as a reminder of the cataclysmic events that occurred.

Avatar Creation
This is the avatar creation stage. Just before arriving you can customize your look. Be sure to do a good job as once your done, you can no longer do that again. Although you can be a beautician, or find a beautician, to do it for you!

Fresh off the Boat
So you're fresh off the space boat, or whatever you want to call it, and you're standing there not knowing what's going on. To start off you can play the game in first or third person. So here's what you can establish......You're in ugly old clothes and don't know where you are. Well the first thing you want to do is get familiar with the world you're in. You want to understand where you are. Right at the moment you are in Port Atlantis the starting city for all the Newbies out there. If there was server problems or the server is full you may also spawn at Treasure Island, which is full of helpfully people too.

Radar
Something else to look at is your radar, yes the radar. The radar shows almost everything you want to see without looking at it. You can change the type of radar by pressing "U" if you don't like the current one.
It should include......

A compass to tell you what direction you're headed

Several Dots mean different things such as:

* Blue Dot- A teleporter or TP ( Something that can transfer you to other places you've been before that have teleporters)

* Red Dot- A mob, better known as one of the many types of animals on Calypso

* Light Purple Dot- Someone in your society (A group of people, also known in other games as a guild)

* Orange Dot- An NPC shop keeper that you can buy things from.

* Green Dot- This is a fellow player and that could be bad or good.

* White Dot- A dead player, who is going to respawn when he chooses..

* Purple Dot- A dead mob/animal that is ready to be looted by the player that killed it.

* Yellow Dot- A team mate, you can create teams in options menu when you right click. You can also join when you are invited.
Next to the compass should be your health bar and a greenish/yellowish dot. This dot will tell you if you are in a pvp zone or not.

Chat
The chat is a great way to communicate with friend's, society mates, and anyone around Calypso. There are also many chat functions that have to do with the chat area. The chat area is the big box on the left hand side of the game screen. Each of the buttons on the top side of the line on the bottom part of the chat screen will turn off a piece of chat. i.e. Trade Chat or Soc Chat. You can go into one of these chats by using the buttons under the line. You press enter/return and start chatting away!

Emotes
Emotes can be used by right clicking, then using the emotes tab. You can select a dance, a posture, or do an emote. It's all to add to the fun of the game.

The Basics

So you know about chat, emotes, the radar, and the controls. Whats next? Well you can do a few things.

1.Deposit- Put some money in the game and skip sweating.

2.Sweat- Go into your inventory (hotkey is I) and equip your sweat gun. Then walk up to any animal you can find and sweat it (Dont worry theres a section for this too).

3.Walk Around and explore the massive continents, space stations, etc.

Well the first option is the easiest. Put some money in and do whatever you want. There are a variety of things to do, so skip the sweating guide and go ahead and learn!

Sweating
If you picked option 2 or 3 (You should probably pick 2) then you're going to want to go to learn how to sweat. Sweating is when you, the newb, use your colorful green gun and extract sweat from all the animals of Calypso (Not Robots or Humans, Animals!).
You can do this by equipping the tool and right-clicking the monster, then select the operate option. So you have learned something and want to pay me back (maybe) don't sweat it, hehehe. (Yes that was a terrible pun). You probably want to be in first person and set the gun to auto use. This can be done by right clicking, going to the options (not the game options) and selecting it.

You can usually get 0-4 sweat bottles each time you try.

Sweat Rates
The sweat rate constanly changes, so make sure to be carefull on the price you sell for. I try to sell for .5, and most people think im crazy. A few months ago that was the norm, and I still consider it the norm. Most people though will pay allot less.

Going to The Swamp Sweat Camp
These directions will take you to the Swamp Camp, a major sweating area. It's north of the teleporter. You should see a ramp and two turrets (Large Guns). Go up the mountain and continue past the mall and people, if anyone's there. Go north and follow the road. At the end of the road you will find the swamp camp. Here people can usually help you, but you should sweat in groups. Like I said before dying isn't bad as it gives you skills. Don't worry you wont lose any items. Another tip is after a while you may want to go somewhere called Nea's. Ask around for directions. It requires going to the continent opposite of where the sweat camp is.

Decay
Decay is the process of your items wearing down. As they wear down, it will cost PED's to repair them. Try not to let them get too low. Here are examples of how different items wear down.

Hunting, Mining, Crafting Equipment, Etc. -Using them for the specified activity.
Clothes - Wearing them and taking them off

Armor - Damage from a mob/creature

You can repair items at the Repair Terminal. It is usually found near a Trade Terminal and is a very important aspect of the game since it repairs your items. It's usually better to repair your items, rather then buying new ones!

Societies
Societies or Soc's, are like guilds in other games. They are a group of people trying to achieve a common goal or just trying to have a nice group set up for fun and events. Its great to join one. One of the most popular I've seen around are the NBK and the current Soc I'm in is the EU Outcasts.

Jobs and Things to Do
Events- There are several different events run by different people. An example would be paying 1 ped for a ticket at an event booth and participate in the event. Lets say you win, then you would get the prize if there is one. Or maybe the event isn't set up at a booth it's just happening. You can search the forum for events. I recently went to a trivia event that just happened to start in the Swamp Camp. So remember events can be anywhere, just keep a look out.

Collecting Fruit, Dung, and Rocks- Fruit, Dung, and Rocks are just another thing waiting to be found on planet Calypso. They are rarely seen and you usually have to walk, not run to find them. You can change from run to walk by pressing "Q". You can find them about anywhere, but its better to look for them in the wilderness. Just walk a while and you may stumble on some fruit or rock's!

TP Runs- In Calypso there are several teleporters. These teleporters can transport you to other teleporters that you've been to. You also may want to collect these just for quick transportation or enjoyment. They look like this.

In several societies and events, they require you to go and get all the different teleporters so you have them and can travel freely across the world.

Mining- Mining is one of the most popular activities. Mining is the process of taking bombs and running all over the place dropping them. Then you hope you find some kind of cool rock's or liquid. For There are two types of mining...Enmatter and Ore
Enmatter is usually better for newb's. All the starter mining items can be bought at the Trade Terminal. The starting items will all need to be bought, so you will need all the matching items for the set. Don't buy two items from two different types of mining, for example don't buy enmatter seeker and an ore extractor. Mining usually has very large profits. Its expensive, but usually worth it. Enmatter is cheaper, but usually has less of a payout. Ore is expensive, but has a higher payout. Oh, and you can mine almost anywhere throughout Calypso. In jungles, deserts, or even shallow water! Just remember that you shouldn't waste your supplies. So don't drop 2 bombs in the same place, run quite a bit and then drop another. Using the radar circle might help a bit.

Hunting- Well you need to buy the proper equipment to find and hunt animals/mobs throughout Calypso or more basically taking a cool gun and blowing stuff up. The best starter gun is the Solomate Opalo which can be bought at any Trade Terminal. You will also need ammo for it which can also be bought there. The best newb animals to hunt are Exarosaur's, Sabakuma's, or maybe some Daikiba's which are all found very close to Port Atlantis (Where you Start). Once you kill something, you can loot it by right-clicking it and selecting the loot option. Your goal in hunting is to at least make enough to cover the decay on your weapon (Your weapon can be repaired) and to pay for the ammo. Your other goal is gaining skills which are also very helpful.

Crafting- Crafting is an activity where you take blueprints/blueprint book, materials, and put them in a machine. For example lets say you want to make sheet metal (A good thing to start with). You would get it's blueprint and the blueprint book that it goes into. At this point you get the materials and put them into a machine. Then depending on your success rating something may come out. The outcome can be one of three possibilities. You could be successful and make the object, you could be almost successful and get some materials back, or you could fail and get nothing. This can then be sold for cash. Blueprints that have better quality rating give you a better chance of success when creating something. The better the quality the better and the more expensive it is. You want to generally craft things that have high trade mark-ups so you can sell them at high rates.

Owning Land and Apartments- This activity is for when you become a lot richer or have a lot of money to deposit. You can buy land or an apartment from its owner or buy it on the auction. Land has a tax on it, and when people hunt or mine there you get Ped's. You can also put mobs on it for a big or little price depending on the animals. However land is very expensive. Entropia actually has the record for the most expensive virtual item bought, which was a space station called Crystal Palace for 100,000 USD

Shops and Trading- Trading and Shop Ownership are important parts of Calypso. Trading, is basically where you buy something cheap and sell it for a profit. Try to do this with popular items and not to buy to high or sell too high or low. Shops are basically a bigger way to trade, except they're always there to buy from. Although when you have a shop you have to pay rent! It's also one of the more expensive things in Calypso. You'll probably want to look this up after you get started.

FAQ
These are some of the questions I get asked by newbs, A LOT!
1. How do I Make Money? - Well you can find many people to help you trade, sweat, or you can just deposit. You can also walk around the world looking for fruit or dung (Not So Exciting).
2. How do I Play In First Person? - Zoom in your mouse wheel.
3. How do I trade? - Right click someone and then select private trade.
4.Where do I sell my sweat? - You can sell your sweat to people. Usually this is done at a rate of .5, so .50 pec per 100 bottles.
